Bramble x Lightning; Confessions « Thread Started on Jun 4, 2008, 5:29pm »
Lightningstrike wandered aimlessly on the bank of the river. He hated this, the constant feeling of sadness. He knew that he shouldn't blame himself for anything that has happened, because there was no way for him to have prevented any of it. But he felt alone, even when he was surrounded by other cats.
It had been getting better, though. There were those who filled the emptiness. Mostly though, it was one cat imparticular. he couldn't stop thing about her, even if he tried (which he didn't do to often). They had been spending a lot of time together lately, and his feeling for her had grown beyond friendship. He didn't know how to say it though, for fear of being rejected and losing the only thing that gave his life joy. Brambletail.
Knock it off, Lightningstrike. Why would she like you? You're just the sad warrior who mopes all the time.

A rustle from the bushes behind the golden tom could have been enough to make him jump. A moment later a large brown she-cat strutted out of the shrub, purring, her chin lifted to the air as she looked at him from her patched eye. She strode up to him with large steps, twitching her whiskers in delight.
"Hey, Lightningstrike!" the she-cat meowed happily, looking into his dark amber eyes with her brown ones. She waved her crooked tail- for which she had gotten her name- in the air. It was upright in a sign of friendship. "How are you today? I'm monitoring Flowerpaw on her first hunting assessment, but then I saw you here. How early did you get out? I woke up and your nest was somewhat cold!"

Lightningstrike jolted as the she-cat burst into the clearing. He calmed as soon as he saw who it was, getting into a better mood than even before his scare. Great Starclan, she's beautiful, he thought, before shaking his head slightly. His eyes showed his joy at seeing her though, despite how he tried to contain it.
"Brambletail! he mewed back, closing the distance between them with a bound. His large ears were swiveled forward eagerly. "I'm great!"Liar, you haven't been "great" since Icestream died."Yeah, I got up pretty early...before sunrise, even. I needed to take a walk" The truth was he had had the nightmare. He failed at saving his mentor all over again.

Brambletail purred as she sat next to the golden tabby. She ran the tip of her twisted tail down his spine gently in order to calm him down and help him sit. She looked deeply into his eyes and curled her tail around her paws gracefully. "I see..." she paused for a moment before continuing, "is there something on your mind, Lightningstrike? Anything you want to tell me?"
After hanging around him for so long and so often recently, they had become very close. She knew his expressions, emotions, his troubled past... she knew that he usually wanted to vent. Whenever he did, she would sit with him and help. She thought that that morning would be no exception.
But she was wrong.
((Heheheh... Brambletail might not like Lightningstrike at first. >=P -evil idea-))

((Uh oh.... xP))
He sat beside her, purring deeply. Each time he was near her, no matter how many times it happens, he still got a little thrill. Hearing her question, he opened his mouth, hesitated, and closed it again. How could he tell her? He hadn't really planned this thing out and it stopped him in his tracks. "Well....um...." he stammered. Think, Lightningstrike, think! He tried to no avail to make the truth come out of his stubborn mouth.
Do it! It's won't kill you! How will you know if you don't take a chance? He hung his head and sighed, bracing himself. "I like you...a lot. More than I've ever liked anyone before," he whispered. What would her reaction be?

((xD))
Brambletail let out a low purr. She scooched closer to him, resting her long tail on his shoulder. She looked into his eyes and twitched her whiskers. "Lightningstrike, I know. All these times we've spent together have been amazing. I like you a lot too, Lightningstrike." It all seemed super, just as the golden tom must have wanted. Until his crush ended.

((OHNOES!))
Lightningstrike blinked a few times, unsure of what he had heard. He raised his head and looked into Brambletail's deep, brown eyes. The eyes that had been such a comfort to him. What should I do? What should I do?! he thought, frantically. He took a deep breath and kept looking at her. "That's not what I mean. I like you as....more than a friend." He held her gaze, but was cringing inside, sure he was about to be rejected. Sure he was about to lose her...

Brambletail's tail stiffened. It shot toward the ground, twitching. She stuttered, twitching her ears. "Err... uhmm... Lightningstrike? I don't like you that way..." She froze, scared. What if he got upset? It's not like she would lie to him, especially about something this serious.
She gulped, hoping she wasn't portraying her emotions in her eyes. "Lightningstrike, you're my best friend. I don't want to lose you as that."

"Oh..." Lightningstrike could feel his throat tightening. I...I see. He tried to prevent his ears from drooping and failed miserably. He didn't want to lose her either, but if he hadn't told her, he would have forever asked himself "what if". "That's fine. I understand." He suddenly felt uncomfortable, something he had never felt in her presence.
He was torn. He didn't want to leave her, yet he wanted to be alone. He squeezed his eyes shut, trying to stop the prickling in his nose and at the corners of his eyes. "I'm sorry," was all he could say.

Brambletail got to her paws, pressing her cheek to his. Her broad face was mostly from long, sweet-smelling fur. "It's okay, Lightningstrike. We'll always be friends." She then turned around, padding back to the direction she came. She flicked her tail to him in goodbye as she went to watch her apprentice.
However, there was uneasiness running through her. What if something happened to stop their being so close? What if Lightningstrike longed for more, more than she would give him? Would it ruin their friendship?

The golden tom breathed in her sweet scent, but it only made it worse. "Yeah, I know, Brambletail." he said, softly. He opened his eyes and watched her go. [b"Tell me how Flowerpaw does, okay!" he called after her.
Lightningstrike continued to sit there, confused and aching inside. He hoped what he said didn't destroy what they already had. He sighed, rose to his paws and started to walk back towards camp. He turned once to look in the direction Brambletail had gone with a heavy heart.
